Environmental Services

The City of Lee's Summit
offers numerous services that aid our community and the environment.

The Solid Waste Division of the
Public Works Department is responsible for these services, including our
Resource Recovery Park where yard waste, mulch, and compost are processed; our drop-off Recycling Centers where glass, paper, aluminum, tin, cardboard, and plastic recycling is offered; and our Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility where unwanted HHW is collected and properly disposed.  The Public Works Department is also responsible for addressing stormwater issues in the City.

The Water Utilities Department ensures that our demands for safe drinking water are met and provides tips on how to conserve water.

In addition to these services, the Environmental Coordinator is available to answer questions, give presentations, and organize environmental awareness events.  For more information, contact the Environmental Coordinator at 969-1804 or via email.

Be a part of City’s first “Green on Green Sustainability Fair” “Green Goods Vendors Needed”
Businesses and entities selling and promoting green goods are invited to host a booth at the City of Lee’s Summit’s first “Green on Green” Sustainability Fair.

The fair will be Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Green Street between 2nd and 3rd streets in downtown Lee’s Summit, MO.  The fair’s focus is to educate residents and business owners about simple and complex sustainable practices that can be implemented at home and work in order to improve the sustainability of our community.

Booth sizes are 10’x10’ and cost $35 each.  Only one booth space will be allowed per vendor and a limited number of booth spaces will be available per business type in an effort to offer residents a variety of sustainable practices. Vendors may sell products at their booth if they have a state vendor’s license and a local business/occupational license.  Each vendor will be responsible for their own sales, including sales tax.

If you are interested in having a booth at the Lee’s Summit “Green on Green” Sustainability Fair, please complete the registration form and “Hold Harmless” Agreement and remit, along with payment to the attention of the City’s Environmental Programs Coordinator Kara Taylor, City Hall, 220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit, MO. 64063.  The registration form and agreement are available at http://cityofls.net/Environment/Workshops-Events-and-Activities/Sustainability-Fair.aspx. The vendor application deadline is August 6.

The “Green on Green” Sustainability Fair is hosted by the City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Lee’s Summit 360o: Charting Tomorrow strategic planning group.

If you have questions, contact the City’s Environmental Programs Coordinator Kara Taylor at (816) 969-1804 or kara.taylor@cityofls.net.
