PERSONAL INFO
The oldest daughter of 8 children, I was born in Girard, KS., and lived on a farm. Then we moved to Raytown, where I raised my family. In 1992 I moved to Lee's Summit, where I have resided for 18 years in district one.
As a child, I watched my parents raise 8 children and run a business based on free enterprise. I realized the importance of the small business and the individuals of the city.
A student of St. Teresa's Academy and Metro Park College. I have worked as a real estate agent and at the Plaza Board of Trade, but most my adult life has been spent advocating for others.
Each of my four daughters were diagnosed with different illness. My twins were both born with Rubenstein-Taybi Syndrome, I then became very involved with 'Mothers of Handicapped Children', an advocacy group lobbying politicians to enact laws to assist individuals with special needs, such as neighborhood group homes, respite care and seat belts on state buses.
I have served as chapter leader for Compassionate Friends,(a bereavement support group) and have been a participant of the brain tumor support group and the heart transplant support group, both at St. Luke’s Hospital. I am also active at the First Presbyterian Church in Lee’s Summit In 2006 I was elected to the Lee’s Summit City Council, District #1. This followed 9 ninths of dedicated work to rezoning my neighborhood to uphold the property values of Old Lees Summit area.
Since that time, the National League of Cities has presented me with the bronze and silver certification in leadership, and I am currently working toward the gold level. All of these were earned by participating with other cities across the nation. I remain active in the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and R-7 Partners In Education, and the EDC.
My philosophy is “live, laugh and love life to the fullest, enjoy what one can, give what you will, help those in need, and be thankful for each new day".
SINCERELY,
KATHY HOFMANN
Even though I remain busy in the community I enjoy my time with ,my four granddaughters, writing poetry and short stories.
In 1997 I began the “SPIRIT OF LIFE AWARD” at St. Luke’s on Heart Institute-4 in honor of my late husband Lee, who had a heart transplant. St. Luke’s continues to give this award annually. The award is a clock that reminds us all that a heart transplant can only buy us time, because in fact, that is all anyone has.
